Sakhi kendra is a not-for-profit organization working in India for over 36 years, focusing on alleviating inequality and social injustice. We do this through well planned and comprehensive projects in health, education, livelihoods and good governance. Our overall goal is the empowerment of women and girls, especially from poor and marginalised or socially excluded communities leading to improvement in their lives and livelihoods.
WHY WOMEN AND GIRLS?
“It is vain to expect virtue from women till they are in some degree independent of men.” – Mary Wollstonecraft
Sakhi kendra focuses on empowering women and girls because they are predominantly affected by poverty and discrimination; and suffer exploitation, abuse and violations when exercising their rights, entitlements and desiring access and control over resources. Over many years fighting for gender equality we at Sakhi Kendra have experienced that, when equipped with the proper resources and awareness, women not only have the power to help the entire family but they can also help communities overcome poverty, marginalisation and social injustice.
